There are so many beautiful places available to the traveller these days. Budget travel is available to everyone who owns a backpack. However, there are some destinations that never make it into the brochures. Read on and avoid these places like the plague!

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is a very beautiful country. Its people are friendly and welcoming, they offer great hospitality. There are amazing things to see. Like safaris? The big five are all to be found in Zimbabwe’s national parks. Enjoy gourmet food? The quality of the food in restaurants is surprisingly excellent. How about music? The whole country is addicted to concerts and live music, it is impossible to miss as the traditional songs of the two tribes as they are played everywhere. So, why not go there? Unfortunately, the political situation makes the once prosperous Zimbabwe into a violent place, full of suffering and poverty. The country is perilously unstable and there is palpable danger if you decide to go there. It is a great loss to the travelling community as Zimbabwe has the beauty, the culture and the loveliest people that should be shared by the world.

Afghanistan

This country has a rich and fascinating history. There is a real interest in travelling through this ancient land but because of fighting and potential threat of bombs or kidnap, this is one place to cross off your bucket list.

Verkhoyansk, Russia

Whilst Russia is a fantastic country in which to travel, there are some regions which you may find slightly off putting. By all means enjoy the sights and sounds of these fascinating lands, marvel at the Trans-Siberian Express and indulge yourself in the fabulousness of Moscow. However, Verkhoyansk is one region to think twice about visiting. The reason is the weather that you will likely face. The average temperature there is -45 degrees. It would be unfortunate to arrive during a spate of bad weather! Keep to warmer climates to avoid frost bite or other chilly fates.

Death Valley, USA

134 degrees will certainly melt your ice cream faster than you can eat it. This could be a problem if you choose to holiday in Death Valley, USA as it has been labelled as the hottest place on earth by scientists recently. If the thought of a day out with the family includes such severe temperatures then certainly go for it but recent phenomena there were birds falling dead from the sky. Maybe pass on that picnic.

The inhospitable climates, the political unrest and the potential of violent unrest make these destinations to avoid!
