If you are looking for serious skiing in Belgium, you might be disappointed. Belgium only has a handful of ski resorts with limited runs and mainly caters for cross-country skiing. Belgium also has a very short ski season; you are unlikely to find any skiing at the end of March, unlike French counterparts.
If you are desperate for some good skiing, consider a trip to Switzerland or France. I have included some of the closest resorts at the end of this article.
How many ski resorts does Belgium have?
There are around 10 ski resorts in Belgium, if you can actually call them ‘ski resorts’. Some are just hotels in a large estate with a couple of runs. If you are used to the large resorts in France or Canada, you will likely be disappointed.
Still, if you have children and looking for a bit of fun, the resorts below will be great.
Mont des Brumes ski resort
Mont des Brumes is the perfect skiing resort in the Ardennes region between Francorchamps and La Gleize. These beautiful snow-coated mountains will provide visitors with endless hours of pure adventure.

Mount Rigi Resort

Mount Rigi is a popular destination for skiers in Belgium. Located in the heart of the Waimes region. The region mainly uses cross-country skiing with a fantastic 15 km loop, but there are a couple of downhill slopes.
The ski season in Mount Rigi typically runs from December to April, with the peak season occurring in January and February. The mountain offers a variety of runs for skiers, from gentle slopes for beginners to steep and challenging runs for more experienced skiers.
One of the most popular runs on Mount Rigi is the “Rigi Express,” a long and winding trail that offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. The trail is suitable for intermediate skiers and provides a thrilling ride down the mountain.
Thier des Rexhons – Spa
Skiing in Thier des Rexhons, also known as Spa, is a popular winter activity for locals and tourists alike. Located in the Ardennes region of Belgium, this picturesque town offers beautiful views of the surrounding forested hills and rolling valleys.

Zosterbach – Nidrum (Bütgenbach)
This ski location has a couple of 600M runs and a cross-country loop, it also has a small 250m slope, ideal for kids’ sledging.
Lierneux – Le Monty
Lierneux – Le Monty is a small town in the province of Liège in Belgium. It is situated in the eastern part of the country, in the Ardennes region, known for its beautiful forests, rivers, and rolling hills.
Monty Lierneux has 1 ski slope at 510 M heigh and a couple of ski lifts. The resort also has a few cross-country ski routes, one with a 10km loop.
What is the closest French ski resort to Brussels?
If you are looking for a proper ski resort with serious downhill runs, consider Gerardmer in Northern France. Gerardmer has 21 slopes totalling 40km of skiing. Driving time is 4hrs 48 mins from Brussels by car.
If you do not want to drive, you can take a train to Switzerland to ski. Brussels to Bern is 6 hrs 13min via Gare du Nord.
Your other option for skiing in Brussels is to try an indoor ski facility such as Ice mountain.
